How Kate Moss debunked Amber Heard in a sordid TV trial: DANIEL BATES REMEMBERS

Hollywood has never seen a blockbuster like it — a charismatic male lead, his former heroine and a racing roller coaster that has captivated TV audiences around the world for more than six weeks.

The once-golden couple fought a vicious battle for their reputation and career in a stunning sequel to the original two years ago, when London’s High Court ruled that Johnny Depp was the wife-beater.

Last night, Depp won – and the key to his victory was likely three minutes of evidence from his ex-girlfriend Kate Moss.

From her home in the Cotswolds, Moss, live on Zoom from her home in the Cotswolds, coolly dismissed Amber Heard’s repeated remarks about Germany Poe once pushed her down the stairs.

Then there was the revelation that she had paid more than $7m (£5.6m) from her divorce to charity – as Miss Heard had promised – and was forced to admit to a seven-person jury that she had only paid one Small fee. that amount.

Sitting in a chair from start to finish, Daniel Bates recounts the twists and turns of a trial that fascinated and shocked the world.

turbulent years

With more than six weeks on the field in Fairfax, Virginia, the tumultuous four years Depp and Miss Heard spent together were laid bare by all.

Through their well-paid legal team, the ex-lovers tore each other over the details of their short-lived marriage as they demand dizzying amounts of money, each claiming they were defamed by the other. The Pirates of the Caribbean star wants a jury to pay him up to $50m (£40m), but more importantly to refute his wife-beating defamation (a claim found by a London court is ‘substantially true’) .

In return, his Aquaman star ex is demanding double damages – $100m (£80m) – saying her life was slapped with a slap in the face when she divorced him and publicly accused Depp of the attack in 2016 Her smear campaign was ruined.

While Depp had hoped the trial would help restore his reputation, it turned into a spectacle of vicious coupling.

With millions of people streaming the proceedings live on the internet via dedicated court broadcasts, the Hollywood love story turned into a bitter hatred.

The trial recounted how the couple met 13 years ago while kissing on the set of 2009’s “The Rum Diary” while they were watching other people – in Depp’s case, his two children’s Mother, French singer Vanessa Paradis.

Depp and Miss Heard met in 2012, married in 2015, divorced 15 months later when she applied for a restraining order, and came to court with scars, sparking a flurry of speculation.

The jury saw dozens of texts, photos, videos, medical records and even pages from the former couple’s “love diary” that they wrote to each other in hand.

But now the pain on both sides overshadows the lost love.

Depp and his mother

Depp, speaking in a choppy, nonchalant voice, portrays himself as a “Southern gentleman” who was traumatized by his abusive mother growing up in Kentucky.

He told the jury that, like his mother, Depp would try to get out of the conflict, but Hurd never asked him to.

He said Miss Heard’s claims were “outrageous and disturbing” and “without any factual basis”.

Depp said Miss Heard felt “too good to be true” at the start of their relationship, but then she started “exposing herself”.

She went on an “endless march of insults” and uncontrollable anger at him, as Depp told the jury: “I was right not to be allowed. I was not allowed to have a say.

According to Depp, he felt like he was reliving his relationship with his mother, and Hurd had a “pure hatred” of him and was jealous of his career.

In one dramatic moment, Depp put his hand to the side of the witness stand, explaining how Miss Heard threw a vodka bottle at him in Australia in March 2015, cutting off his fingertips.

But under cross-examination, Depp was forced to explain the horrific text to British actor Paul Bettany, in which he wrote: “Let’s burn the amber”. In a message to another friend, Mr Depp said he would like to see Miss Heard’s “rotten body rotting in the f****** trunk of a Honda Civic”.

Then there was a flight from Boston to Los Angeles in 2014, where Miss Heard claimed Depp was drunk and abusive before falling into a coma. The court played an audio recording of Depp moaning “like an animal” after he passed out.

There is also a video showing Depp smashing the kitchen of his Los Angeles home while drinking what has been described as a “big pint” of wine. Depp tried to explain himself, saying: “I did raid a few cupboards, but I didn’t touch Miss Heard.”

Hear “hostage”

Heard told the jury that when she and Depp started dating, she felt like “the luckiest woman in the world” and was called a “c***” almost every day.

She described Depp as a violent and jealous man who would basically veto films she wanted to do because he didn’t want her to expose her body on camera.

In March 2015, Miss Heard vividly detailed how Depp sexually assaulted her with a bottle in Australia, one of a series of shocking incidents. It happened during what Miss Heard described as a “three-day hostage incident”, while Depp “lost his mind” about ecstasy and cocaine while filming Pirates of the Caribbean 5.

Then came the “empty search” incident, in which Depp was accused of intimately searching his lover, accusing her of cocaine possession, or allegedly headbutting her, making her suspect a broken nose.

Miss Heard described calling on her makeup artist to cover up two dark eyes and split lips after Depp headbutted her when she was due to appear on The James Corden Show the next day.

But last night’s verdict wiped out her claims – the jury sided with Depp and awarded him £8million.

During cross-examination, Miss Heard admitted she had not donated her $7m (£5.6m) divorce settlement to charity, including at the High Court in London in 2020, as she has repeatedly claimed.

Miss Heard claims she sees the words ‘promise’ and ‘donation’ as the same, and claims she has spent $6m (£4.8m) in legal fees, meaning she can’t keep her promise . The jury of five men and two women is likely to have a bleak view on this.

She also had to explain a recording in which she called Depp a “f****** baby” and admitted she did hit him as he said.

her “historical personality”

Depp’s legal team assembled his staff, including security, his property manager and his personal doctor and nurse. Among those giving evidence to Miss Heard were her sister Whitney and her former best friend Rocky Pennington, who both detailed the incident of Depp’s violence and abuse.

Depp called clinical and forensic psychologist Dr Shannon Curry, who diagnosed Miss Heard with borderline personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder.

Miss Heard’s equivalent, Dr Dawn Hughes, rejected this and said Miss Heard suffered from marked PTSD from years of trauma.

One of the few impartial observers was Laurel Anderson, a marriage counselor who provided therapy for Depp and Miss Heard. She told the court they “abused each other” and that Miss Heard, like Depp, “struggled hard”.

Kate and Ellen, star witness

Kate Moss was called in by Depp’s team as a last-minute surprise witness.

In just three minutes of testimony at her Gloucestershire home, Miss Moss denied rumours cited by Miss Heard that Depp had pushed her down the stairs.

In fact, Miss Moss said, he came to find her assistant and help her get medical care. This feels like a persuasive intervention.

Ellen Barkin, another former actress who starred in “Fear and Loathing” with Depp in Las Vegas, testified that he once threw a bottle of wine at her, calling him “controlling, jealous” strong man”.

“I got scratched on the back one time and it made him very, very angry because he insisted it was because of having sex with someone who wasn’t him,” she said. But several prominent names were not called as Witnesses, including Paul Bettany and Hurd’s predecessor Elon Musk.

prank on the bed

Depp suggested Miss Heard had left human waste on their bed following an argument in April 2016. His driver, Starling Jenkins, said Miss Heard had told him it was a “bad prank”.

But in her testimony, Miss Heard suggested it was one of their Yorkshire terriers, Boo, who did it, telling the court the animal had “eaten Johnny’s weed as a puppy and had intestines throughout his life” Road Control Issues”.

She denied any involvement and said it was “disgusting”.

Circus on Live TV

Depp’s lawyers successfully televised the trial, which turned it into an international spectacle.

With millions of people watching live on YouTube channels every day, Court TV covered the case from gavel to gavel.

It turned into a circus even though a judge prohibited either party from signing on arrival at court.

Depp sat in a large SUV, Bob Marley shouted from the stereo, and dozens of female fans screamed his name. Those same fans booed loudly when she showed up.

Depp and Miss Heard’s fashion choices have become a topic of debate in themselves.

He likes bespoke three-piece suits in grey or blue, while she likes muted tones and 1930s-style updos.

On Monday, the final week of the trial, a woman was led out of the courtroom after holding up her baby and shouting: “Johnny, I love you, this baby is yours”.

Depp’s fans have repeatedly trended #justiceforjohnny on social media, as have #amberturd and other unrepeatable slurs of her character.

Last night, following the verdict, the social media outrage only got worse.
